The puppies started being able to move around the box more easily, though mostly still pulling themselves along and occasionally propelling with their hind legs. Now that they were more mobile, we added different textures/surfaces for the pups to navigate. They got to experience a tin pie pan, glass pie pan, a silicone ridged baking mat, egg carton, bubble wrap under the mat, etc.

Over Labor Day weekend, we had 3 days in a row of triple digit temperatures, 2 of those days got to 111 outside! With no A/C in the house, we kept the pups cool with fans, ice packs, wet microfiber cloths, frozen water bottles. The puppies did very well in the heat with these things to keep them cool.

The exciting part of week 2 was the puppies’ eyes opening toward the end of the week. Once that happened, we strung up a mobile and put more small toys in the box for them to discover. They also got the purple inflated Totofit Diskit to practice walking on unstable surfaces, though the floor of their whelping box is foam, so they already have some experience with that. 🙂 The best discovery for them, though, were their littermates!

Monty and Zuma
Once their eyes were open, they started zooming around the best they could. Both Pomo and I were amazed!

Some of the scents this week: cat (fabric that held the scent of two different cats), star anise, and because Goldens are hunting dogs, they also got the scent of duck and pheasant.
