Day 11
Though this isn’t the best photo of Mr. Red, it must be shared as it makes me laugh in delight every time I see it:
The whelping box has been completely changed to provide some cooling for the pups as well as some traction as some of the pups are starting to stand and wobble-walk (or Franken-walk, as some friends call it). Here’s a picture of the box.
There are a couple towels for traction– I left one bunched up as they like to climb and burrow, a piece of fleece for texture, and a damp chamois which the puppies love to lie on to cool themselves. Sometimes they sprawl out on the chamois; other times they sleep with their head and front paws on it, or lie against it for a touch of cooling.
The next photo illustrates the new markings on the puppies as described a couple days ago (boys marked on the rump, girls on the withers):
Lastly, a couple more pictures from today.
Believe it or not, the puppy put itself under the fleece like this:
I haven’t talked about novel scents for a while. The puppies have now also smelled geranium leaves, cheddar cheese (which some wanted to eat), and rose petals (they all loved to smell the roses).
