Day seven, part two

Wow! Not much happened yesterday, but today has proved to be a milestone in these puppies lives. They were extremely active today, scooting very fast all over the box;  climbing on and over the rails; causing traffic jams with each other in the rails, sometimes requiring rescue as they are a bit fat; climbing all over each other; tunneling under the blankets; having feeding frenzies on mom and climbing over her; making a general racket with all their activity. I was having a hard time believing these puppies are only 7 days old!

THEN… tonight we did our Bio-Sensor exercises, weighed the pups, and the novel scent today was a dried bird wing. Several of the pups were interested and even tried mouthing it. That was very promising!

Later, I was looking at Ms. Purple’s sweet little face poking through the rail, and noticed her eyes opening just a little bit. What a surprise! Another pup- Mr. Orange, practically blinked at me. I’ll check the others tomorrow. We didn’t expect them to start opening their eyes for at least another day or two, so these pups are starting out as high achievers. I feel very proud! 😉 The range for eyes starting to open is usually anywhere from 8 to 14 days.

We won’t be subjecting these new eyes to flash photography until they are fully open and adjusted, but we’ll post what pictures we can get.
