First meal from a bowl

I’ve been waiting for an indication that the puppies were ready for their first solid meal, and we got it a couple days ago when Sport started regurgitating food for the puppies. I witnessed her feeding them two meals, the first of which was ground chicken, and the second was a tripe product called XKaliber which consists of green tripe, ground beef, trachea/gullet, ground bone, and beef heart. (This is a great food, and one of Sport’s all-time favorite foods, from GreenTripe.com in Hollister. Some people feed it to their dogs exclusively).

Today I decided to give them a small meal of plain green tripe, in individual bowls. Note that they have never eaten from bowls before. Click on the picture below to go to a video of the feeding session.

They carry around their food bowls just like their mom does! Sporty did it as a baby puppy too, so I half expected and hoped that her puppies also would.

Also, the last few days I have been giving them big meaty bones to work on, to exercise their jaws and let them get used to eating small scraps of meat off the bone. It was so fascinating to see how they instinctively know how to eat that way, with no hesitation or uncertainty at all. The puppies shared their bones with each other, usually two puppies to a bone.
