Week 6 recap

We started evaluating the puppies this week, for structure and also for their early interest in birds.   This is a hunting dog breed, so it’s important to us that the interest in birds is preserved.

The picture above is one of the puppies after he was given the chance to encounter a dead pigeon.  All the puppies showed some level of interest, with no fear, though not all were able to pick up a whole pigeon like the one above.  It’s just a matter of time, though.

Aside from that, the puppies continue to eat, sleep, play, and grow!   This week in addition to their beef, turkey, chicken, lamb, and tripe–  they tried rabbit, goat, pieces of raw sardines, chicken necks, and a cow gullet. The cow gullet was actually a treat for Sport, but she decided to donate it to her puppies, who enjoyed it immensely and provided a good hour of entertainment as they figured out how to share one gullet amongst themselves.

This is a familiar sight- puppies under the Kuranda bed.

We have a busy weekend ahead with lots of visitors and more evaluations.  Next week is the last week here for some of the puppies.  We have vet visits and their temperament/performance puppy test.   I’ll try to post when I can!
