This was the busiest weekend for the puppies so far. They had several visitors, and did very well, playing appropriately, and folks were great about keeping things fairly calm for the puppies to encourage that good behavior.
Their recall is getting to be very strong, both with a verbal “pup-pup-pup” cue, and also with a whistle (which I use to call them for meals). I’ll try to get a good video of that this week.
The newest addition to their outdoor playpen is the ball pool. It’s SO cute to see them jump in, grab a ball, jump out and run around with it. Sometimes they play with the ball and smack it around.
A new addition to their indoor pen is a wire crate, to get them used to a crate. The crate has doors open on the inside of the pen so they can access the crate, and the exit from the pen is through the remaining crate door. There is a Treat and Train remote trainer on top of the crate, so I can use a remote control to release treats (kibble) into the crate. They get treats when they go into the crate, and sometimes when they are just resting in the crate. Here’s a video showing the setup.
The Treat and Train also has an auto dispenser so it will dispense treats into the crate at random intervals without the owner having to manage the remote. It’s works well while crate training, to prevent separation anxiety. It’s also great for teaching stays so you can reward from a distance. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I highly recommend these for training.
The pups ended the weekend with a group walkabout around part of the backyard, solo (without Mama Pomo this time). They all did great, were very confident, and had a super time.
Lastly, I’ve been bad about taking individual puppy candids, but fortunately a friend took these screen captures during a video chat. Enjoy!
