… and the winner is…

… Purple boy!   He is the first one to climb out of the whelping box on his own — a bit of a surprise, though he was in the running.   We were sitting right there as he was trying, though we weren’t encouraging him at all.  After he fell back a couple times we thought he would give up, but he kept coming right back.   On that last try he stepped up onto the pig rail, pulled himself up with all his might and climbed over.   I eased him down as he was coming down the other side (he would have been cushioned even if I hadn’t been there).  He then proceeded to explore the puppy room, with his nose down most of the time, and his back legs almost always well under him.  Most of the pups haven’t been able to navigate the vinyl floor easily yet because of the lack of traction.  Here’s purple boy on his solo trip outside the box:
